Tooth Crown Repair and Replacement
If you have a discolored, decaying, or cracked tooth and are in the Hazelwood, MO, area, we easily solve your issue with dental crowns. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a damaged tooth to encase the entire tooth and restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. A dental crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that is too weakened to be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
When Is a Tooth Crown Needed?
Dental crowns can solve many problems. When a tooth has significant decay, a dental crown may be used to save and protect the function and appearance of the damaged tooth. A crown can be placed on top of a dental implant to replace a missing tooth. Dental crowns may also be placed after a root canal.
There are several types of crowns available; tooth-colored porcelain crowns are the most popular. Porcelain crowns are made to match the color, size, and shape of your teeth and will give you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile. Crowns are extremely durable and should last many years. However, like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced.
The Dental Crown Treatment Process
Getting a dental crown usually requires two appointments to our office. Your first appointment will include getting several highly accurate impressions of your teeth that will be used to create your custom crown. We will also create a temporary crown which will stay on your tooth approximately two weeks while your new custom crown is being fabricated by a dental laboratory.
After your tooth has been numbed, Dr. Buchheit will prepare your tooth by removing any decay and shaping the tooth surface to properly fit the crown. After this has been accomplished, your temporary crown will be placed with temporary cement and your bite will be checked to ensure proper fit.
During your second appointment, your temporary crown will be removed and your tooth will be cleaned. Your new crown will then be carefully placed to ensure your spacing and bite are accurate.
You will be given care instructions, and we will encourage you to visit us regularly to check your new crown.
Thx Gang...you really made my visit a pleasant one! It was nice to finally find out what my status is! All the best and I will definitely refer you to all in need of a good Dentist and nice man!—Michael L.
